How to Download and Install the iTunes 10.3.1 Update and What Features Are Included

**WARNING**

iTunes is not static software, but instead a constantly changing intermediary between your mobile devices, computer, and online shopping center.  iTunes 10 integrated a whole new set of features in an effort to draw in social networking and make the way for the iOS 5.  There have been a number of small upgrades since then, and most recently the iTunes 10.3.1 update has been added and people are scrambling to keep their system up to date.  Though this is not the largest iTunes upgrade that has been released, there are still going to be crucial iTunes 10.3.1 features that you will need for your integrated system.  Here is a look at how to download and install the iTunes 10.3.1 update and a look at what features are going to define this new incarnation.

You can start by going to the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner, then choosing the Software Update option from right under About This Mac.  This will initiate the Software Update system, which will see what available software you have to update through the Apple system, which could actually be more than just the iTunes 10.3.1 update.

Once you see that iTunes is there and checked you can hit the Install Item button in the lower right hand corner, and the process of installation will begin.  You will likely be asked to then enter in your computer’s administrative password if that is set on your computer.  After this you will then be asked to Agree to the User License Agreement for iTunes.  Make sure that your are closed out of iTunes as the Software Update begins, otherwise it will halt you and remind you that it must be exited for the installation to proceed.  Once the update has completed you will get a message indicating this and the Software Update system will check again to see if any other software updates are available.  Once you now re-open iTunes you will then find that you have an updated version of iTunes.

The 10.3.1 update is fairly significant as small upgrades go, really trying to get itself even more in sync with the array of mobile devices that use it as the mother ship.  One of the key iTunes 10.3.1 features that you will receive with this is an automatic download function that allows for content downloaded from an external device or computer to then be downloaded directly to your Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.  This is a process of centralizing the purchases onto your various iOS device, which will be something that people will be used to once they get iCloud.

The other major iTunes 10.3.1 feature is that you will be able to download any previous purchases that you have had without paying for anything else.  This is especially important for people who have reformatted their computer or lost all of their iTunes media for some reason, though they will be unable to be found if the songs or movies are not actually at the iTunes store any longer.

Another addition that comes along with the iTunes 10.3.1 update is really just to the iTunes Store itself and less about your own computer.  Now there will be a Books section added to the store to match the television shows, music, podcasts, and movies.  You can then integrate them directly to iBooks on iOS devices and the same two iOS 10.3.1 features, automatic downloads and the ability to download previous purchases, will work for them just the same.
