IPhone 4

Time flies. It's hard to believe that it's already been four years since the original iPhone was released, exactly four years today. As far as specs go, the iPhone is pretty standard when compared to today's smartphone choices, and operating systems are a matter of preference. That wasn't the case four years ago. The iPhone truly broke new ground for the smartphone market. The interface was smooth and the design was slick for the time. www.drmobiles.co.nz

Let's take a brief look at the history of the iPhone's design.

1) iPhone - June 27, 2007

IPhone 1st gen

This was announced January 2007 and released June 29th, 2007. Yeah, it's slow and clunky by today's standards, but back then it ran circles around the competition. Steve Jobs teased the audience at first by saying he was introducing three new devices, a touchscreen iPod, an internet browsing device and a phone. He kept repeating those phrases and paused, asking the crowd if they'd caught where he was going with it. He said that it's one device, and he introduced the iPhone.

2) iPhone 3G - July 11, 2008

IPhone 3G

This phone was introduced on June 9th, 2008 at WWDC. It wasn't a major upgrade under the hood. It didn't seem much faster, but the design was beautiful for its time. It felt trimmed down (though we hear it's a little thicker, but the curved back made it feel thinner) and was given a shiny plastic backing.

3) iPhone 3GS - June 19th, 2009

The design of the iPhone 3GS isn't all that different from the previous model, but it was significantly faster than the iPhone 3G. It felt a bit thicker than the 3G because of the slightly more curved back, but it wasn't enough to make a huge difference. Most users probably wouldn't even notice a change unless they held them side by side.

4) iPhone 4 - June 24th, 2010

IPhoone 4 - 2The iPhone 4 was unveiled (for the second time) on June 7th, 2010. Steve even joked about the leak by saying "Stop me if you'e seen this." He then added, "believe me, you ain't seen it yet." This phone introduced the Retina display and FaceTime, both of which are becoming standard on iOS devices.

What's Next?

Is it the iPhone 4S? The iPhone 5? What will it look like? We've heard both stories. Some say it's going to look pretty much like an iPhone 4, other reports say it's going to be a complete redesign. Of course you can bet that we'll be around to cover the announcement when it happens (September, reports say) and we'll be right here with you to see what's new. www.drmobiles.co.nz
