Dumbest iPhone accessory ever?

IMG_0739Yes, that picture is worth a thousand words.  It is indeed a new iPhone cover that features a taut bunch of meat chimes.

Here's a slogan I came up with they can have for free: This new case protects your phone while leaving your dignity in the dust.

And I'm not saying the bro purse that's attached is small, but I've seen larger ones on Barry Bonds.  At least the people who buy "bumper nuts" for their truck get a big pair.

This bit of iPhone flair can be yours for US$15 and allegedly 10% of all profits go to fight testicular cancer.  But wouldn't you rather send the charity a check and skip being seen sporting a device adorned with these foolish faux baby danglers?

LG Optis 2X Tips and tric! Dr Mobiles Limited, 1 Huron, Street, Takapuna, North Shore, Auckland

The next step on our LG Optimus 2X tips and tricks tour is gesture controls. LG has added a choice of various tilts and taps that can make you smartphone do some serious things. It’s a pretty unique feature actually, you won’t see on every other Android smartphone.
Alright now. Let’s play!
The mysterious gestures allow you to move your cursor when entering text by simply tapping on one of the handset’s sides. Or they let you move widgets across different homescreen panes by simply tilting your phone.
You could also pause a video by simply flipping the phone over or pan around an image by tilting it one way or the other.

Mobile Phone Review 2011: Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo - the first look. (Dr Mobiles Limited, Takapuna, Auckland)

Introduction

Sony Ericsson is keen to start 2011 in style with strong additions to the XPERIA lineup to please every taste. The Arc is the one true flagship, the Pro is the business messenger and the Play is the gaming smartphone. What’s in there for the Neo then?

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo has the appearance of a Vivaz and an Android heart. Is this what the original Vivaz should have been? A conclusion would be premature at this point but consider the advantages. Android instead of the rough-around-the-edges Symbian, bigger and better display, multi-touch support and greater processing power. We guess we shouldn’t be looking at the past though. The XPERIA Neo is stopping in for a quick preview and we want to make the best of the short time we have with it before it’s released.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo

Having met with the Arc already, it feels right to put things into perspective. There are fine differences between the two smartphones and screen size alone won’t be enough to tip the scales. The Neo will have to show some respect but it’s not a simple flagship - patrol boat hierarchy.

The price tags will ultimately make the biggest difference and – the way things look – the Neo will make a lot of sense as the more affordable phone, which offers relevant features like continuous autofocus and video light.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo will be marketed as a cameraphone. An 8 megapixel camera and HD video capture are a strong mix and we’re more than eager to see them in action.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo at a glance:

  • General: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 900/2100 MHz, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 5.76Mbps HSUPA
  • Form factor: Touchscreen bar phone
  • Dimensions: 116 x 57 x 13 mm, 126 g
  • Display: 3.7" 16M-color TFT capacitive touchscreen, 854 x 480 pixels, Sony Mobile Bravia engine, multi-touch input, scratch-resistant surface
  • CPU: Qualcomm MSM8255 1 GHz Snapdragon platform
  • OS: Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • Memory: 320MB storage, 380MB RAM, microSD card slot, 8GB card included in the retail box
  • Camera: 8 megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash, face detection and touch focus; 720p video recording at 30fps with continuous autofocus
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, standard microUSB port, GPS receiver with A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, microHDMI port
  • Misc: Sony Ericsson Timescape UI, built-in accelerometer, proximity sensor, digital compass, secondary VGA video-call camera

The XPERIA Neo is an all-round smartphone and a capable cameraphone. If the actual performance lives up to the expectations, Sony Ericsson might just have a another winner on their hands (after the Vivaz).

Mobile Phone News Update: Nokia E7 review (Mobile Phone Repair by Dr Mobiles Limited, 1 Huron Street, Takapuna, Auckland)

Introduction

Business as usual for the Eseries is a cliché – thank you very much. But the kind that makes the world feel right. The Nokia E7 could’ve been just another Eseries phone. Oh well, that wasn’t meant to be. The latest is implicitly the greatest but, in the case of the E7, the latest may simply be the last.

Nokia E7 official photos
Symbian is just about to be knocked off the top-spot as the market-leading smartphone platform. Worse yet, while loyal users are still sitting on a fence about replacing their E71/E72s Nokia is deciding whether to euthanize Symbian. Question marks have been hanging over the platform’s approach to touchscreen since day one. And now it’s got WP7 at its very doorstep. It’s the worst of times for the Nokia E7. But it’s up to it to show that the Eseries are still open for business.

Key features

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
  • Penta-band 3G with 10.2 Mbps HSDPA and 2 Mbps HSUPA
  • Anodized aluminum unibody
  • 4" 16M-color ClearBlack AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of 640 x 360 pixel resolution
  • Scratch resistant Gorilla glass display
  • 8 megapixel fixed-focus camera with LED flash
  • 720p video recording @ 25fps
  • Symbian^3 OS
  • 680 MHz ARM 11 CPU and 256 MB RAM
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • microHDMI port 720p TV-out functionality
  • GPS receiver with A-GPS support and free lifetime voice-guided navigation
  • Digital compass
  • 16GB of on-board storage
  • Active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic
  • DivX and XviD video support
  • Built-in accelerometer and proximity sensor
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Stero FM Radio with RDS, FM transmitter
  • microUSB port with USB On-the-go
  • Flash and Java support for the web browser
  • Stereo Bluetooth 3.0
  • Good quality audio
  • Smart and voice dialing
  • Office document editor preinstalled

Main disadvantages

  • Symbian^3 is still behind Android and iOS usability standards
  • Ovi store content is inferior to Android market and App Store
  • Fixed-focus on an 8 megapixel camera is just wrong
  • Camera interface is decidedly outdated
  • Battery is not user-replaceable
  • No microSD card slot
Now, Nokia reconfirmed their commitment to Symbian in the short-term, but that doesn’t mean much. If the platform is to be scrapped, users will learn it the hard way when regular updates stop coming in. Occasional bug-fixes is the best they can hope to get. And good software support is among of the main reasons why people still choose Nokia.
However, how much short-term can stretch depends on the success of the current Symbian^3 devices. So if the Nokia E7 does at least as well on the market as the N8, it might as well buy the platform a few extra years.

As you can see from the lists above, the Nokia E7 is basically a larger N8, trading the camera bulk for a a larger and better display and a full QWERTY keyboard. To be honest though, when we reviewed the N8 it was mostly the camera we were delighted with. Then, that was five months ago and the bar is set higher now.
The Nokia E7 certainly won’t have an easy ride throughout this review. Let’s see how it handles the pressure.

Apple iPhone Repair & Unlock: iOS 4.3 Unlocking Secret (Dr Mobiles Limited) Takapuna, North Shore

11-March-2011:
Ios_4_-_3
Today we were nicely surprised to see iTunes greet us with the latest iOS 4.3 software for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 well ahead of schedule. The update brings a handful of improvements including faster web browsing, iTunes Home sharing support, enhanced AirPlay support and, of course, the Mobile hotspot functionality.
In general, there's nothing new we didn't already know about. Nevertheless, the update is a major step forward for the devices lucky enough to get it.
We, personally, welcome the new Safari Javascript engine, which is noticeably quicker than the old one. A performance improvement is always welcome. The update also brings support for the newly released Apple Digital AV Adapter, allowing you to output 720p video to your HDTV.
Don't waste any more time, jump right ahead to your iTunes to get the download. Don't forget to share your thoughts on the iOS 4.3
