Phones, we all use them. Some of us prefer just a cell phone, others prefer a land line, and, yet, some of us have both. No matter what kind of phone you choose there is a phone for everyone. Sometimes, the phones can be weird or a weird concept that could potentially turn out to be the best thing going.

Nokia 888

The Nokia 888 is a concept phone that has been deemed the bendable phone. You can take this phone and bend it anyway you need it to. It will fit around your wrist, like a bracelet, or you can shape it to form a clip on your clothes. It works through touch and voice recognition.

The Hyundai MP-280 is known as the perfume phone. This phone as all the functionality of a regular cell phone with the added bonus of being able to keep you scented with your favorite perfume. When you open phone it will let out a light spritz of your favorite perfume. You can even refill the cartridge with a syringe when you have run out.

The Telson TWC 1150 is a phone, watch and camera all in one little neat package. It has a digital camera that attaches to the side, a phone with voice recognition and it acts as a watch. It is light weight, weighing only 98 grams and you are sure to never loose it, with it being around your wrist all day. It is very much like a spy or James Bond type of device.

Pantech now makes a mosquito repellent phone. It has all the features of a regular cell phone, but it makes “ultrasonic” noises to repel mosquitoes. The noises are very audible to anyone around and can be quite annoying, but supposedly it works at repelling the mosquitoes, leaving your slumber a bite free one.

The matchbox cell phone is just that. It is about as big as a matchbox and the keypad slides in and out of the LCD screen like an actual matchbox would function. At the moment it is only a concept phone, but with its light weight design and functionality it is only a matter of time before it comes to fruition.

Right now this is just a concept phone, but it is expected to get made. With the invention of cell phones that have been doubling as MP3 players, the sound quality of the phones has been lack luster. With this phone, the quality should be much better, hence the larger speaker in the back of the phone.

This Chinese cell phone will not only make phone calls, but it will also hold cigarettes. This concept phone was made to appeal to the millions of smokers that inhabit the borders of China. Equipped with a camera and a LCD screen, you can load up a half a pack of cigarettes in the back. It looks like a pack of cigarettes and comes with a pack and lighter when purchased.

Hamburger Phone

This phone is a land line phone that can fool anyone into thinking that it is just a hamburger. It was seen in the popular movie Juno and has all the normal function of a regular phone. To use it, you just lift up the top bun and dial. You have to hold the bun and patty portions to your ears and mouth in order to talk.

This phone is made to look like sandwich. You can pretend that it is your favorite kind of sandwich and just set it down to fool your friends. That is until it rings and you have to answer it. To use it, you can pull apart the bread in order to unveil the receiver. The other piece of the bread will act as the keypad and you can use it and talk on it like it is a regular phone.

That is right! Not only can you get a hamburger phone, but you can get a companion phone in the French fry phone. This phone is meant to be a land line phone and it can be closed up to look like just a box of French fries. The back end of the phone is the portion you use to talk and dial on, after flipping open the back compartment where the keypad and receiver are hid.

Why Soap Operas Are Called Soap Operas (Dr Mobiles LImited, 09-551-5344)

Why soap operas are called soap operas?  This all started out in the 1920′s; a simpler time where Jazz was swell; the soviet union was in its infancy; Robbert Goddard became the first rocket man; and the world only existed in black and white.

In this bustling time, radio was the Bee’s Knees.  On the radio was a series of serials aimed at women aired during the day time.  Dame’s thought these were the cat’s meow and ate up every second of them.  The radio networks themselves decided they needed to think up ways to make more clams off these shows and so came up with the idea of getting companies to sponsor the shows.

Now these dolls were no dumb Dora’s, so the radio networks sought to match the advertisements closely with their target audience to get a good response.  This campaign hit on all sixes and made these shows extremely profitable.

Among the first major sponsors of these shows were soap manufacturers Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, and Lever Brothers.  Eventually, due to the fact that so many of the sponsors were soap manufacturers, the media started calling these shows “soap operas”.  Nifty!

Jailbreaking an iPhone is Now legal in US (Dr Mobiles Limited - iPhone Repair, Takapuna, North Shore, Auckland)

Library of Congress has legalized jailbreaking of iPhones. Copyright office from LOC has given a ruling that jailbreaking a smartphone specifically Apple’s iPhone is permitted under DMCA provisions of fair use. Jailbreaking can be used for best advantages to unlock software’s real potential. One can get third party access to application store of Apple and get to download many free items like background themes, applications, games and much more if they get to jailbreak software of iPhone.

This is strictly prohibited by Apple because there will not be a valid contract with user and he/she will be able to use wireless carrier service to full extent without having to pay more. To quote lines of James H.Billington, “jail breaking is innocuous at worst and beneficial at best”. Billington generally has to review Digital Millenium Copyright Acts(DMCA) at regular intervals of three years to check for technologies if they are exempted from being banned when accessing a copyrighted material. People must submit their technologies that must be reviewed and needed to be exempted citing relevant reasons for the same.

Electronic Frontier Foundation or EFF had submitted jailbreaking for iPhones to be reviewed. Points that were brought forward of consideration had some issues that can be applied being in agreement with Apple’s license. It argued that iPhone owner will have ownership of firmware used, and since it is using it for non commercial personal use, it can well be granted an exempt.

Apple’s stand on this point is very clear, it says this must not be allowed considering safety of Apple and its users. Apple feels that it is a necessary protection for clients and confronted this issue that modifying operating system of Apple will create more intruding versions of same, which is not favorable. It further elaborated that people who purchase apple iPhone are not owners of software program but rather licensee of it. They opine that exemption must not be allowed.

According to Billington, the contract has no clear explanation on ownership of iPhone software for the user. He further explained saying that ownership of intangible works vests with Apple, but regarding ownership of copies of the same, has no clear documents. He judged it in favor of EFF saying that people who jailbreak their iPhones will not be using it for public commercial purposes. Copyright office has concluded that Apple’s interest in objection relates to manufacturing and distribution of their device and that they may have fears of reputation being harmed.

Copyright law exempts acts that involve programs that are altered for interoperability and this is how jailbreaking is viewed as. They exempted EFF from the act of remixing videos on famous YouTube also. This new rule does not ban users from viewing portions of DVD for commenting on it. More exemptions granted were related to video games, e books, wireless networks and programs on dongles.
