When will the Apple iPhone 16 be launched this year?
Apple typically announces new iPhones in September, so if they follow that trend, the iPhone 16 launch is expected to happen sometime in September 2024. There is no official confirmation yet on the exact date, but we might hear more announcements around August 2024.
David Lim asked: "What are the possible new features or design changes for Apple iPhone 16? Will there be an iPhone 16 Ultra?"
Apple hasn't announced anything official about the iPhone 16 yet, but based on rumors and leaks, here are some possible features and design changes:
Display and Design:
Larger displays for the Pro models: iPhone 16 Pro at 6.3 inches and iPhone 16 Pro Max at 6.9 inches.
Standard models (non-Pro) might get a new "capture button" and an "action button" on the side [1].
Pro models might have thinner bezels and a slightly larger body due to the bigger display [1].
Camera:
All models might get a significant upgrade to the ultra wide-angle lens, going up to 48 megapixels from the current 12 megapixels
Pro models might get improved telephoto lenses with 5x optical zoom (up from the current 3x)
The iPhone 16 Pro Max might even get a 12.5x optical zoom lens, but this rumor seems less likely
Other features:
A faster A-series chip is expected for all models [1].
Standard models might get a new vertical rear camera layout instead of the diagonal one [5].
Wi-Fi 7 might be supported for faster internet speeds [1].
There are rumors about improved AI features like a smarter Siri and better integration with productivity apps, but these might be for the iOS 17 update rather than the iPhone 16 itself [4].
As for the iPhone 16 Ultra, there haven't been any reliable rumors about it. Apple currently has the Pro and Pro Max versions, and it's unclear if they would introduce a new tier.
It's important to remember that these are all just rumors, and Apple's official announcement could be quite different. We'll likely know more details closer to the release date, which is typically in September.
Set to come out in the fall of 2024, the iPhone 16 models will feature faster chips, larger sizes for the "Pro" line, camera improvements, and possibly a new button.
Apple iPhone 16: New Leak Promises Snappy Upgraded Design
This fall, Apple will release the phones we believe will be called the iPhone 16 series. A new report claims that the phones will look different because of bezels which are predicted to be thinner than ever. Though, if you thought iPhone bezels couldn’t get much thinner, I wouldn’t have blamed you.
The new report is from Sisa Journal and was spotted by MacRumors. It says that “Apple is set to launch four models: the iPhone 16 regular model, Plus, Pro, and ProMax, all of which are expected to introduce a new BRS (Border Reduction Structure) technology, an ultra-thin bezel technology.”
And, it explains, “BRS technology is a borderless display technology that designs the rims at the bottom of the panel as thin as possible, reducing the bottom bezel while rolling up the copper wiring at the bottom.”
It’s less common now, but it used to be that phones would have thin bezels at the sides and perhaps the top edge, but a thicker frame at the base.
The industry slimming the bezels has recognized this, with one person telling Sisa Journal, “We have not greatly reduced the bottom bezel. In fact, the borderless technology that reduces the bottom bezel has been applied to some other products before, but I know that there was a problem with the heating part. Recently, heat-controlled heat dissipation technologies have been improved and seem to be applied again.”
It's worth noting that from the very first OLED-screened iPhone, the iPhone X, had bezels which were exactly uniform on all four sides, unlike rival phones with a wider bezel at the bottom of the phone.
