The LG Optimus Big gets an official release

The LG Optimus Big, made its first unofficial appearance back in March but now it looks like it's about to be unleashed for real.

In LG's homeland of South Korea, the Optimus Big has been officially announced under the guise of the LG LU6800. For the meantime it's only available in South Korea but if conditions are right, there's no reason why it couldn't be pushed westward, although LG haven't got plans at this point in time.

The LU6800 runs Android Froyo 2.2 out of the box, but it wouldn't surprise us if it got a Gingerbread update in the near future. It also features a 4.3" WVGA display, a 5MP autofocus camera on the back and a 1GHz processor. The Optimus Big is exclusively available on South Korea's 3rd largest carrier LG U+ from April the 28th.

2011, HTC Desire S review: Droid Cravings (mobile, phone, news, tech, update, report)

Powerful hardware, large high-res screen and the latest Android version in a single piece of solid metal – the recipe did wonders for the original Desire so no wonder HTC are in no mood to experiment with the sequel. Take the best and make it better pretty much sums up the game plan. Oh well, we’ll take quietly brilliant even if emphasis is sometimes on quiet. In other words, the Desire S is a phone we’re ready to like. But make no mistake – it’s not meant to be the flagship its predecessor was.

HTC has the Sensation to send against the heavyweight competition. The new Desire is given a different, though no less important role. Ideally, it should be the smartphone that has broader appeal, the one to offer as reward to loyal upgraders. The phone to give you – wait for it – more bang for your buck than we’ve come expect from HTC.

Here’s what it puts on the table summarized.

Key features

  • Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
  • 14.4 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
  • 3.7" 16M-color capacitive LCD touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels)
  • Uses the best screen from HTC so far (along with the Incredible S)
  • Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense
  • 1 GHz Scorpion CPU, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 chipset
  • 768 MB RAM and 1.1 GB ROM
  • 5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and geotagging
  • 720p video recording @ 30fps
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n and DLNA
  • GPS with A-GPS
  • microSD slot up to 32GB (8GB card included)
  • Accelerometer and proximity sensor
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • microUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v2.1
  • Smart dialing, voice dialing
  • Front facing camera, video calls
  • DivX/XviD video support
  • Compact aluminum unibody
  • Gorilla glass display
  • HTC Locations app
  • HTCSense.com integration
  • HTC Portable Hotspot
  • Ultra-fast boot times (if you don’t remove battery)

Main disadvantages

  • No dedicated camera key and no lens cover
  • Poor camcorder performance, jerky 720p videos
  • Below-par sunlight legibility
  • Wi-Fi signal degrades when you cover the top part of the back panel
  • microSD is below the battery cover

Those coming from the original Desire will certainly notice the absence of the optical trackpad and that now capacitive keys replace the hardware buttons. It’s a different way of interacting with the phone but by no means less comfortable. Other than that, the new smartphone certainly does well to upgrade the original. You get more RAM, a slightly more compact and lighter body, which is still solid enough thanks to all the metal, along with the latest Android and a more powerful GPU.

Video-chat enthusiasts will cheer the front-facing camera, while those who want lots of apps installed on their smartphones will appreciate the extended built-in memory.

The bad news is the Desire S is – in more than one way – running against the clock. A year is a really long time in cell phone terms and there’s no guarantee the updates are enough to make it competitive in a market that’s embracing dual-core and pushing beyond the 1GHz mark.

A white iPhone 4 appearing at Vodafone UK, launches next week (mobile, phone, tech, news, report

25-April-2011:   For the better part of a year, the white iPhone 4 drama has been endlessly taking unnecessary space in our tech journalist lives, but now all this is finally coming to an end. Vodafone UK is said to start selling the device as soon as next week.

Reports are coming that Vodafone UK has received the notorious white iPhones and a sales associate has sold one to a customer, confusing it with a black iPhone. After that though, sales have stopped, as the carrier has sent out a company-wide email saying to halt sales until next week.

Now all that’s left to do is wait for an official Vodafone UK press release stating price and a release date.

This Is Why Apple Keeps Track Of Your Geo-Location (tech, news, spy, tools, cyber, snoop, stalking)

You already knew that your iPhone keeps record of everywhere you go in a secret file. You probably have been thinking what’s the reason behind saving user’s geo-location? Well, according to sources: Apple has been building a location database for the past 10 months, which will be used to develop geo-location apps and diagnosing service problems such as where dropped calls happen the most etc.

This is Why Your iPhone Tracks Your Every Move

Apple has already explained its geo location policies to US Congress in a letter, which reads: (Read full version here)

These databases must be updated continuously to account for, among other things, the ever-changing physical landscape, more innovative uses of mobile technology, and the increasing number of Apple’s customers. Apple has always taken great care to protect the privacy of its customers.

However, the letter doesn’t mention anything about the data stored on your phone. The data is stored for every user and stays there forever, even after it’s transmittion over a secure channel to Apple databases via Location Services.

Some people do like to have log of their whereabouts, but others should at least have an option to choose between keeping the log on phone or not.

You can stop Apple to stalk you by switching off Location Services in settings, but for now you can’t do anything about data storage on your device.

Do you which are the 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World? (record, fast, air, speed, aeroplane, air plane)

Jet Aircraft are powered by jet engines and move much faster as compared to the propeller-powered aircraft. You can see a jet aircraft at a certain place before your sound can even reach there! Yes undoubtedly some of the jet aircraft even move faster than the speed of sound. The concept of jet aircraft was first given by two engineers, Frank Whittle of UK and Hans von Ohain of Germany.
Top 10 fastest jets are as follows:

10: General Dynamics F-111 “Aardvark”

10 General Dynamics F 111 “Aardvark” 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World

It was developed in 1960’s by US and it is in active use of the Royal Australian Air Force. Its max speed is 2.5 Mach/ 2.5 times faster than the speed of sound. Aardvark is powered by twin Pratt & Whitney TF30-P-100 afterburners turbo fans.

9: MIG 31 Foxhound

9 MiG 31 FoxHound 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World

It is produced by Russia and is an advanced version of MiG-25 FoxBat. The max speed of Foxhound is 2.83 Mach or 1860 mph and it is driven by two SoloveivD-30F6 afterburners turbo fans. Foxhound has the capability to produce 34,172 lbf of dry thrust.

8: F-15 Eagle

8 F 15 Eagle 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
A product of USA, F-15 Eagle is powered by double Pratt & amp; Whitney F100 axial-flow turbofan with an ability to produce 29,000 lbf of thrust. It has a max speed of 2.5 Mach.

7 XB 70 Valkyrie 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
It has a max speed of 3.1 Mach and is produced by USA. It is powered by 6 General Electric YJ93-GE-3 afterburning turbojet machines.

6: Bell X-2 Starbuster

6 Bell X 2 Starbuster 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
This jet comes with a sad but successful history with it. It is produces by USA and was a research project with ability to cross Mach 3. Lt.Col. Frank K. “Pete” Everest in November 1955 was the first one to test this jet and he flew this thing above Mach 3 but unfortunately, this took his life as well. It was indeed a despondent incident. Starbuster is powered by two-chamber XLR25 sea level thrust throttle-able engine.

5: Mig-25 “Foxbat”

MiG 25 Foxbat 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
It is produced by Russia and is really pragmatic in functioning at high altitude above 80,000 feet. Its max speed is 3.2 Mach and is powered by twin Tumansky R-15B-300 afterburning turbojets.

4: SR-71 BlackBird

SR 71 blackbird 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
It was developed by Lockheed Corporation, USA in the 1960’s and is the upgrade version of U-2 reconnaissance aircraft. It is powered by 2 Pratt $ amp; Whitney J58-1 continuous –bleed afterburning turbojets with a capability to supply 32,500 lbf thrust each. It can fly as high an altitude as 100,000 feet with 3 times the speed of sound (3.5 Mach). It was in use by USAF for 40 years and was retired in 1998.

3: X-15

x 15 7 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
With the max speed of 6.72 Mach, X-15 is the 3rd fastest jet aircraft. Its engine is Thiokol XLR99-RM-2 liquid fuel rocket engine that uses liquid oxygen us fuel. It can fly as high as 354,330 feet.

2: X-43A

2 X 43A 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
This jet is fueled by Hydrogen and can move at a speed of 9.8 Mach. The credit goes to the supersonic-combustion-ramjet. It is produced by USA.

1: Space Shuttle

1 Space Shuttle 10 Fastest Jet Aircraft In The World
The fastest plane in the world is powered by 3 assemblies that contain reusable Orbiter Vehicle or OV, the external tank or ET which is fueled by LOX/LX2, and 2 reusable solid rocket boosters or SRB which are powered by MMH/N204. Its max speed is more than 20 Mach.

ANZ Day: 25-4-2011, Dr Mobiles Limited

Tomorrow will be ANZ Day, marks the fourth day if the long weekend holiday in New Zealand. We took the chance to put up the bracket to gang up the 37" LCD about the wall of our reception area.

We we quoted $750 to hang up the Plasma TV earlier on. We bought the bracket at $170 with a cordless drill plus some elbow grease we put it up ourselves.
It looked somewhat small on the naked wall. I am sure it will "grow" just like our professional iPhone repair business -- it will grow.
