How Is Apple iPhone 5 Going To Look After Steve Jobs’ Death?

Analysts are starting to wonder what Steve Jobs would have done two days ago if he were to lead Apple’s event. Some say he would have audaciously called the new iPhone, with its not just minor upgrades, iPhone 5. He would have presented it enthusiastically, then handle the heat and the users would have followed without feeling that disappointed. Yet again, that was the irreplaceable Steve Jobs…

The real iPhone 5 could be released next summer and the launch could be pushed even farther because of the death of Apple’s genius co-founder Steve Jobs. The delayed release of iPhone 5, expected for months now, is rumoured to be due to unconvincing tests. At one point, analysts believed that the iPhone 5 prototypes were too thin and the A5 powerful procsessor caused overheating. Rumors say other components didn’t perform well in a newly designed shell. Apple recent moves seem to show an attempt to buy time to address this isue and to develop new technologies to be incorporated in next-generation iPhone, such as 4G data speeds or near field communication features.

Steve Jobs iPhone

Either way, the announcement of iOS 5 instead of iPhone 5 postponed expectations for a little longer at least until the fall when a device to support the new iOS was promised. Now, the unveil of iPhone 4S and strategy to the push down the prices for the previous iPhones enables Apple officials to ensure a good graphic sales for the upcoming holiday season.

After the recent announcement regarding the passing of Steve Jobs, one can only wonder where is Apple going to lead us from now on.

iPhone 4S – Will You Go For Its Speed And Voice Or Wait One More Year?

No, yesterday at Cupertino we weren’t introduced to the fifth generation iPhone. Yes, we have an iPhone with the same appearance under the same iPhone 4 string, now with an added “S”. Still, there was a lot of enthusiasm in the audience after the two hours conference ended at Apple’s Town Hall. Under iPhone 4S’ modest look hide features like faster processor, dual networks, double download speed, improved camera and an intriguing and chatting Siri Assistant were only part of the good news delivered by Apple’s officials, in the absence of Steve Jobs.

The suspense was cleverly constructed, as for the first half of the conference an audience eager to see the release of the new iPhone heard about Apple’s position on the marketing, the performances of its key devices, and the development of new concepts. Tim Cook, Phil Schiller, Scott Forstall, and Eddie Cue alternate on the stage and kept the everybody at the edge of their seats.

Finally, it was up to Phil Schiller to present the new star iPhone, and to give details regarding the iPhone 4S key features.  A dual-core processor, A5 also found in iPad 2, performs two times faster than the chip integrated in iPhone 4 and can deliver a seven times better graphics performance.

iPhone 4S Camera

Another important difference from iPhone 4 is that iPhone 4S can support both GSM and CDMA leaving to the user the option to change between networks. It is no longer need to decide what kind of iPhone you should buy, a GSM or a CDMA one.

On the matter of download speed there is a twist. iPhone 4S does not have real 4G on board, however it has HSDPA connectivity with 14.4 Mbps download speed. It is however very unlikely that carriers will be able to provide these speeds to the users. iPhone 4S does not support LTE, leaving room for speculations related to… of, course, iPhone 5!

A much-improved camera was sported also. The 8MP sensor is able to provide a resolution of 3264 x 2448, 60% more pixels than the previous model. Backside illuminated CMOS means also a leap from iPhone 4, bringing 73% more light. Now five lenses improve the pictures sharpness by 30%. A hybrid IR filter is meant to provide color uniformity and accuracy. In addition, video recording features have been improved allowing HD 1080 and has now image stabilization with temporal noise reduction.

The most impressive part of the press conference involved the chatty Siri. iPhone 4S has a most rumored voice recognition technology. For months now, analysts believe that Apple’s acquisition of Siri company last year would prove to be an important step in developing again a revolutionary technology. As the demo showed Siri Assitant is able to respond to the users commands and effectively make appointments, check calendar, search the web for information, find suitable restaurants, set up alarm, track nearby friends (they first have to agree of course). Another feature Dictation is able to transform speech to text, and beta versions are also available for French and German. After performing tasks asked in the most natural voice and vocally reporting results and answers, Siri manage to surprise by modestly replying to the question “who are you”, “I am just a humble personal assistant”.

iPhone 4S will be available in three storage capacities 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. Carriers will offer the new iPhone with a two-year contract for the prices of $199, $299, and $399. In US, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, and Japan iPhone 4S will be available after October 14th, although preorders can start at the end of this week. 22 more countries will receive the newest iPhone on October 28 and 70 more markets will be include in the deal by the end of this year. Will you wait for iPhone 5 or bet your money on this one?

Apple iOS 5: Everything you need to know abut it!

iOS 5

Apple

"The interface looks a lot like the existing iOS texting, but the big difference is that iMessage doesn't use your carrier's text service, so there are no fees to send images."

iOS 5, Apple’s latest iPhone and iPad operating system, is out today and, at press time, we’re still hammering the Check for Update button like we’re playing Track and Field on the original Nintendo. The list of features is pretty big (wireless AirPlay video mirroring, PC/Mac-less device activation and syncing, mail updates, iCloud goodness, camera accessible from the lock screen, etc.), but here are the major additions to look forward to.

IOS 5 Features

First up is Reminders, Twitter and Notification Center. It’s not much of a secret that Android has had better notifications for a while now, so these are Apple’s superfixes for telling you stuff without being a douche about it. Aside from putting Twitter everywhere (Steve Jobs' last move to spite Mark Zuckerberg), messages are now non-modal, so they don’t force you to deal with them, and notifications don’t steal focus from something else you’re doing. New emails, reminders, texts, Twitter direct messages, Facebook friend requests, etc. -- they all go here and they play nice together. The lock screen also shows the notification list, and it’s all controlled by the notifications preferences, so it’s not spamming you unless you’re Hawaiian and you like spam.

Next up is iMessage, the new direct-messaging app that is like Apple’s Blackberry Messenger, without the flames and looting. The interface looks a lot like the existing iOS texting, but the big difference is that iMessage doesn’t use your carrier’s text service, so there are no fees to send images, unless you love this thing so much that it pushes you over your data limit. Sexting has never been so affordable.

In the “Apple copies something you already had” department is Reading List, Instapaper-like offline reading for Safari.

Last is Newsstand, Apple’s magazine and publication shelf. What’s it look like? Imagine iBooks had sex with iOS folders and they had a baby that updated as new issues of your favorite newspaper or mag came out. Now go wash your brain.

Buy AppleCare+ Before Activating Your iPhone 4S!

With the release of iPhone 4S, Apple has decided to sell to the customers a protection plan with added bonus but also a higher price. As for iPhone 4S regular AppleCare is not available users will have to settle for carriers protection plans or to purchase AppleCare+, for $99, $30 more than the regular fee.

The eager users who pre-ordered iPhone 4S online noticed differences in the carriers’ offers on the insurance matter. Sprint suggests to the subscribers that the company does not provide total equipment protection and they should purchase AppleCare+ services at the same time with iPhone 4S. Verizon and AT&T fail to mention that and advertise their own protection plans to the subscribers interested in iPhone 4S. Verizon will charge a monthly fee ranging between $2 and $11 while AT&T will charge monthly $7 or $10.

However, customers should know that Apple change policy when it comes to adding AppleCare+. Now, it should be at the time of purchase not for the duration of the first year. For the users who already bought iPhone 4S from carriers, without this service, it is important they contact Apple customer service and buy AppleCare+ before activating the handset.

AppleCare+, although at the beginning confused the carrier’s clients, should insure iPhone 4S for the duration of the contract. It means that for two years Apple will cover the repairs and technical support for the phone components and its accessories. Technical support also refers to software possible problems related to iOS 5 and apps including iCloud. Besides, AppleCare+ covers two accidental damages “due to handling”. Putting things in perspective, AppleCare+ doesn’t seem so expensive compared to the risk of damaging the precious new iPhone and having to replace it at the full price.
