Top 10 Most Polluted Cities In The World – 2011 (world record, human, society, social, development, places)

Today we have this post about those cities which are highly polluted in this world. This contains a list of those ten countries which are suffering from poor sanitary conditions, unfavorable environment, untreated sewage, unhygienic food and water etc. Following list below describes the poor conditions of those 10 cities which are highly polluted.

Pollution Top 10 Most Polluted Cities In The World 2011

10). Lagos-Nigeria:

This is the largest city is Nigeria and it is the capital of the commercial industry. The smoke everywhere in this city is the biggest problem for the central business area of this country. 12 million citizens of this city located in Africa are facing a huge problem of air pollution.

9). Karachi-Pakistan:

This city is attributed to the major and industrial city of Pakistan but on the other-hand, Karachi is envisioned as the disease-causing city of Pakistan because of its unbearable air and noise pollution. 35% population of Karachi is being suffered by many diseases due the pollution.

8). Dhaka-Bangladesh:

Dhaka is facing the biggest problem of water pollution with continuous panic. The water is full with disease and pollutants due to which the people of Dhaka are facing many problems. Also, the 8 million population of this city are facing air pollution problem as well.

7). Mexico City-Mexico:

This city which was known as the world’s cleanest city has gone to one of those cities which are the most polluted cities in this world. The intolerable atmosphere conditions due to continuous smoke from snow-crowned volcanoes have caused the difficulty for the Mexicans to breath peacefully.

6). New Delhi-India:

The major problem of this city is water pollution. Garbage everywhere and untreated sewage system is creating water diseases which are extremely high in rate. Waste has become the major reason for the increase of hospitals in this city and even the private hospitals or small clinics do not have sufficient arrangements for the diseases born to be cured in Delhi.

5). Mumbai-India:

This is another city in India facing a big problem of air pollution. This is one of the most polluted cities in the world where you can see piles of garbage everywhere. It is also known as the busiest city of India. Certain places in Mumbai are so much stinky that one will never want to visit there due to garbage in almost every street of Mumbai.

4). Baghdad-Iraq:

This city is in a big problem due to ongoing war and terror. Several bomb blasts and certain havocs have enhanced the air pollution problem in the city. Threatening poor water quality is the basic problem of this city which creates so many even incurable diseases to be born.

3). Brunei-Darussalam:

This is a small city but full with natural gas and petroleum resources. The air quality although seems to be very clean but in fact, it is not. The air pollution is also present in the atmosphere. The pollution from vehicles reveals this fact that the atmosphere is not free from the diseases contained in the pollution of air.

2). Moscow-Russia:

It is the capital of Russia and it is the busiest city where an individual has to pay $3,000 from a three bedroom apartment even though the water is not clean at all in this city. So the city is facing water pollution a lot. Moreover, air pollution is also a major issue of Moscow. As there are no proper arrangements for the disposal of garbage, many inhabitants are suffering from Cholera.

1). Maputo-Mozambique:

The city which is polluted the most among all is Maputo in Mozambique. It is the largest and capital of Mozambique. Air pollution as well as water pollution is the problem of this city. Poor sanitation system, lack of solid waste disposal as well as untreated sewage system is the rising problem due to which this city is being untidy even more day by day. This town is half under water due to the in-ignorable circumstances.

Tech Consumer Report: Thousands 'overpay' for mobile (news, update, UK, England, prepay, phone, calls, rates, GSM, users)

The majority of people with mobiles are signing up to big contracts they don't need, according to new research.

It's because people are worried about being hit in the pocket if they go over their minutes, so they end up overpaying by around £200 a year.

Billmonitor analysed more than 28,000 bills of all the main network providers, except 3.

They say three-quarters of mobile subscribers pay for more minutes than they need because of fears over big and unpredictable bills.

Newsbeat caught up with some listeners to find out their views on mobile phone bills.

Rosie Griffin, 20

Rosie Griffin

I never use all of my minutes and I'd die without unlimited texts. I pay £35 a month - it is worth it but I'd like to pay a little bit less. I am on my phone 24/7, I never put it down, I'm on it constantly until I go to sleep.

I get 600 minutes a month. I think I use about 400. I text a lot more. I wish I could pay a bit less! I Only ever go over if I send some picture messages.

I had a Blackberry before so data was fine but I don't have an idea how much I'm using. I just go on Facebook or internet shopping but I have no idea how much data costs - I don't even know how much I'm allowed!

I think phone companies should deduct money at the end if you don't use all your minutes - but it's alright.

Alec McSimpson, 29

Alec McSimpson

I have a contract for about 600 minutes, I normally use those each month because I use my phone for work. I might go just over but I'm pretty happy with it.

Contracts are complicated. I think if there was a system in place for people who were confused by it, that would be good.

I think when you get locked in for 18 or 24 months it does limit you. I understand the price of the phone is expensive but if you could upgrade before that would be brilliant.

Shauna O'Neill, 21

Shauna O'Neill

My contract is £35 a month. I get 1200 minutes - there's no way I ever use any of them. I get unlimited texts and I always have to pay for the internet. I only use Facebook on my lunch and I have to pay so much money!

I think I pay around £50 a month. It's too much money. I think I probably use about 200 minutes a month, but I'm not allowed to change my tariff. Apparently there are special rules for moving 18 month contracts.

I think after a few months you shouldn't be allowed to waste that much money, I was on pay as you go before and I was topping up a lot so that's why I took a big contract, but I don't use my phone as much any more!

Eve Malek, 19

Eve Malek

I'm always talking on my phone, so I'm always going over my bill. I'm paying £45 a month when my contract is £35. I go over £10 to £15 every month.

I probably say I spend about two hours on the phone a day. My phone's always in my hand I just use it loads.

I have 11 months left on my contract, but I think it's too expensive. I'm either going to find a cheaper one or go on pay as you go so I'm more restricted, that way I will keep track of what I'm spending.

Ban on Muslim women covering faces with veils in France (people, culture, events, politics, islam)

Muslim women in Paris

From today (11 April) it is illegal for Muslim women in France to cover their faces with veils in public.

It's the first European country to pass the law but there's been criticism that it's pointless because only a minority of women wear them.

Any woman caught wearing the burka or niqab faces a fine and will be asked to take citizenship lessons. She can also be subject to an investigation.

If police find her husband is forcing her to cover up, he could face a fine of 25,000 euros (£22,000) and a possible jail sentence.

In the 18th district of Paris, is Barbès. There is a strong Muslim community that lives there, made up of people of Algerian, Moroccan and Tunisian descent.

France is home to western Europe's largest Muslim population of six million.

Out of that, the number that wear the burka or niqab differs, depending on who you ask.

Hadjou owns an Islamic clothes shop in the district.

"Selling the niqab is bad for business," he said. "Not many women wear it or ask for it.

"I've probably sold about five in a year."

Ahmed who runs a small business near one of the district's mosques says he rarely sees women covered up and that was before this ban.

"I'd say probably 0.01% of Muslim women wear the niqab," he admitted.

The French government thinks that figure is much higher. Ministers put it at around 2,000 women.

Ahmed said he didn't think that was true: "That's not possible, but even if it's true, it's only a minority that wear it. So what?"

'Ghettos'

For some, Muslim women wearing veils is a problem.

The interior minister Claude Guéant has been accused of Islamophobia after saying the growing population of Muslims in the country "poses problems".

The French government says they encourage segregation and promote the inequality of women.

Sihem Habchi, a Muslim woman who has worked with the government on the ban, agrees.

"It's because it's a minority we need to act," she said.

It is in the banlieues where the government believes this problem is growing.

They are France's version of council estates located about 35 minutes away from central Paris.

In 2005 riots were triggered among angry young people after two teenagers died in Clichy-sous-Bois, a poor area in an eastern suburb of Paris.

They blamed police for causing it and many feel that persecution is still going on.
