Two sent to hospital after World's Hottest Chilli contest

Two sent to hospital after World's Hottest Chilli contest. Pair in hospital after Kismot 'killer' curry contest. Two people have been taken to hospital following the "world's hottest chilli" competition at an Edinburgh Indian restaurant.
Emergency services were called to the Kismot restaurant in St Leonards Street on Saturday afternoon after some competitors became "very unwell".

The competition involves people eating the "Kismot Killer" curry.

The Scottish Ambulance Service is now calling for a review into how the event is managed.

On the restaurant's website it insists that participants sign a legal disclaimer before taking part in the competition, which raises money for the Scottish children's charity Chas.

It is understood that members of the British Red Cross were on hand at the event, but the Scottish Ambulance Service still had to be called because two people had such a violent reaction.

Curie Kim, 21, an American student on an exchange to Edinburgh University, said she decided to enter the challenge when she saw it advertised in the restaurant.

"It was very painful and felt like I was being chainsawed in the stomach with hot sauce on the chainsaw”

End Quote Curie Kim Competitor

She told the BBC Scotland's news website: "It was very painful and felt like I was being chainsawed in the stomach with hot sauce on the chainsaw.

"I have learned my lesson and will never do it again and, in fact, I will be cutting down on my spice intake full stop."

Ms Kim came second in the contest.

"The woman who won ate the last bowl in four seconds and then ran outside to be sick where as I didn't so I've learned I should have had a game plan like that," she said.

"There were three rounds and I managed half of the last bowl.

"I was in so much pain I wasn't aware of what was going on around me and when I got to hospital they gave me medicine for the indigestion.

"I don't think the restaurant should do it any more as I think there are a lot less painful ways to raise money for charity."
'Hands up'

Organiser Abdul Ali said: "The British Red Cross we had on board could not cope. We put our hands up. We did have to call the emergency services for a couple of our participants."

Mr Ali said he regretted that the services had to be called out on a busy Saturday.

He said all participants were now "fit and well" and more than £1,000 was raised for charity.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "Two patients were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after becoming very unwell at Kismot restaurant.

"We would urge the organisers to review the way in which this event is managed in future in order to avoid another situation where emergency ambulances are required to treat their customers."

Gordon Mackenzie, whose council ward covers the restaurant, called the event a "shambles" and said: "The owners owe a debt to the ambulance service, and I hope they'll find some way of making it up to them."

Man Returns Marijuana

Man Return Marijuana, A man walked up to an officer and demanded that he return the marijuana that he just dropped. Miles Bennet was bold enough to demand that the pot should be given to him.
Officer Dwayne Ausbrooks found the bag on the tarmac in front of a Pittsburgh shop. When he opened it, it contained a weed and Miles walked up to him later to claim ownership and demand that the drug should be returned to him.

When Miles walked to the officer, he said that, “Nah, nah, nah that’s not even cool you can say what you want but, I’m going to tell you. I thought you were going to be cool though.”

The officer replied, “Be cool about it? Sir, when I walk up here I find marijuana on the ground and you say ‘excuse me sir like that’s my marijuana.”

Miles told Dwayne that he accidentally dropped the drug and was coming back to have it. The officer of course didn’t give the drug to him but he also allowed him to walk free.

Experts say the officer did the right thing because he had no evidence that the controlled substance did actually belonged to Miles. The officer could have arrested him of he had seen him drop the item.

In the lawsuit, federal authorities said the couple received $135,000 in federal housing assistance, plus money from a federal program for destitute disabled people and a state program meant to feed poor families. Meanwhile, they allegedly were taking international vacations to locales like Paris, Moscow, and the Dominican Republic, said a Department Housing and Urban Development special agent. chiropractor,

“All these programs are need-based programs, meaning that a person can qualify for the programs only if he or she demonstrates that his or her income or resources fall below a certain level,” the HUD agent told the court. “The investigation has developed substantial evidence that the subjects defrauded these programs by misrepresenting and concealing material information.” Seattle couple accused of stealing $100,000,

To obtain the welfare cash, the couple pretended they were not married and that Shimonova was renting the residence from Silverstein, investigators said. But Silverstein, a chiropractor, claims to be “happily married with two children” on his business website. Prosecutors believe the couple is married.

The government is seeking full repayment and has asked that both be fined $11,000 for each false claim they made to the government. couple on welfare,

Owner Of World's Most Expensive Car Gets Slapped & Ticket

Money doesn't buy you manners: Owner of world's most expensive car gets slapped with parking fine for leaving £840,000 Bugatti in disabled space

An unimpressed traffic warden fills out a ticket for the pricey car
It is the most expensive luxury sports car in the world, affordable only for the extremely rich.
So this ostentatious Bugatti Veyron stuck out like a sore thumb when it was illegally parked in a disabled bay in an affluent corner of Essex. And proving that even the wealthiest playboys on the planet are not above the law, the £839,285 motor was slapped with a parking ticket before it had been in the space half an hour.

The 16-cylinder speed machine attracted a crowd of awed passers-by after it stopped in Buckhurst Hill, an area frequented by reality star Chantelle Houghton and the cast of The Only Way Is Essex.
Young and old paused what they were doing to take photographs on mobile phones of the car's gleaming bodywork and sleek lines. But a traffic warden alerted to the vehicle by the knot of impressed shoppers was not prepared to let the loaded driver get away with his selfish behaviour.
As fascinated bystanders posed with the high-performance car, the warden filled in a ticket for a fine and placed it on the shining windscreen - which was not displaying a disabled badge. The returning owner - an expensively dressed man in his early 40s - looked unconcerned at the ticket, according to witnesses.  He slid into the luxurious leather seats and accelerated away - an attention-grabbing sight in a state-of-the-art Veyron, since it is the fastest car on earth and can do 0 to 60mph in 2.5 seconds.
The motor can reach velocities that would literally lift the car off the ground if it were not for its ingenious aerodynamics, which keep it on the road even at full speed.

What you can't carry on a plane?

This post is for leisure reading only, please check with your airline or local authority about items that you CAN or CANNOT carry on a plane!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Crew 8 Checkpoint-Friendly Brief and 20-inch Rollaboard luggage setIt can be difficult to remember what items you can and can’t bring onto airplanes. Make packing for your flight a breeze by following this guide based on the Transportation Security Administration’s rules and regulations.

What You Can Carry On

  • Small tools. Certain tools, such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and pliers, are permitted, as long as they are seven inches or less in length. All other tools should be securely wrapped (if sharp) and packed in checked baggage.
  • Nonflammable liquids, gels, and aerosols. Nearly all liquids, gels, and aerosols, including but not limited to food, drinks, and personal-care items, must be in 3.4-ounce or smaller containers and placed in a single quart-size clear zippered plastic bag. Exceptions include medically necessary liquids, such as insulin and baby formula.
  • Lighters and matches. Passengers may carry on common lighters and one pack of safety matches. No matches, including safety matches, are permitted in checked baggage.
  • Batteries. Always pack batteries in carry-on luggage. Batteries cannot be packed in bags that will be checked.
  • Knitting needles. Materials for knitting and needlepoint are allowed in carry-on bags, with the exception of circular thread cutters or any cutter with a concealed blade.
  • Gifts. Wrapped presents can be carried on board, provided the contents meet safety and security regulations. But since security screeners may unwrap gifts for inspection, it’s advisable to leave presents unwrapped until you reach your destination.
  • Electronics. Small portable electronic items that are smaller than a standard-size laptop, such as cell phones and tablet devices, do not have to be removed from baggage during screening, but larger items, including laptops, full-size video-game consoles, full-size DVD players, and video cameras that use video cassettes, must be removed from their cases and screened separately at security checkpoints.
  • Medication. All prescription and over-the-counter medications can be carried on board the aircraft in unspecified quantities. Other medical necessities including but not limited to liquid nutrition for passengers with a disability and items used for medical or cosmetic reasons, such as mastectomy products, can also be packed in carry-on bags. These items must be declared to screeners before going through security and are subject to additional screening.
  • Baby needs. Baby formula, breast milk, juice, gel- or liquid-filled teethers, and canned, jarred, or processed baby food are permitted on board the airplane if a baby or a small child is traveling. These items must be declared to screeners before going through security and are subject to additional screening.
  • Expensive items. Although not an official requirement, jewelry, currency, and other valuable items should always be carried with you, provided they meet security regulations.

What You Should Check

  • Sharp objects. Sharp objects include a wide array of items, such as box cutters, ice axes and picks, knives, meat cleavers, razor-type blades, and scissors that exceed four inches (smaller scissors can be carried on).
  • Sporting goods. With the exception of balls, most sporting equipment must be transported in checked baggage.
  • Self defense items. Mace, pepper spray, and other items, such as billy clubs, black jacks, brass knuckles, kubotans, and other martial-arts weapons, are not permitted past security.
  • Snow globes. No matter the size, these souvenirs have to be stowed away in checked luggage.
  • Shoe inserts. Gel inserts should be removed from shoes before travelling or packed in checked baggage.
  • Gel-type candles. Wax candles may be put in carry-on luggage, but their gel-like counterparts need to be checked.
  • Alcohol. Passengers may pack up to five liters of adult beverages in a sealable bottle or flask, provided the alcohol content does not exceed 70 percent.
  • Liquid or gel-like foods. Any food or drink you bring (or buy before the security checkpoint) with a liquid or gel-like consistency, such as yogurt, soup, sauce, jam, peanut butter, cream cheese, or a smoothie, will be confiscated by security screeners even if they are under 3.4 ounces, so you should stow them in your checked luggage.
  • Guns. Well-packaged ammunition and well-packaged, unloaded firearms, BB guns, compressed-air guns, pellet guns, starter pistols, and replicas can be put in your checked luggage, but they must be declared at check-in. Ask your airline about specific rules and regulations.

What You Should Leave at Home

  • Flammable items. Aerosol cans (except limited quantities of personal-care items that are 3.4 ounces or less ), fuels, gasoline, lighter fluid, strike-anywhere matches, flammable paints, turpentine, paint thinner, and replicas of incendiaries cannot be transported on passenger airlines.
  • Explosive materials. Passengers cannot bring items such as fireworks, flares, blasting caps, dynamite, and replicas of explosive materials on board aircrafts.
  • Chemicals. Chlorine, bleach, spillable batteries, spray paint, tear gas, and fire extinguishers are considered dangerous and are not permitted on commercial passenger aircrafts.
